Monroe honors paraprofessional Jen and teacher Sean; principals report smooth opening and Chromebook rollout

Principals then delivered back-to-school reports. Elementary enrollments were reported as: Fon Hollow 685 (25 new), Stephanie 510 (17 new), Monroe L 415 (10 new). The middle school reported 765 students (net steady with last year) and noted a one-to-one Chromebook rollout for middle-school students using GoGuardian software to support classroom management. Leaders said the opening days proceeded smoothly despite summer storm impacts in parts of town.
Staffing and programs: District and building leaders listed new hires across buildings (teachers, a part-time speech and language pathologist, a full-time counselor, security and custodial staff) and noted supervisory aides funded last year have improved supervision. The high school added two sections of AP Microeconomics in response to strong demand. Principals also described professional development on phonics and illustrative math and plans to pilot comprehension/vocabulary programs this fall.
Facilities and maintenance: Administrators described extensive summer work: playground inspections and remulching, substantial tree removal (about 70 large trees at Stephanie after a microburst), concrete and flooring repairs, new custodial sheds and improved signage. Staff praised maintenance teams for rapid turnaround to reopen buildings on schedule.
Next steps: District staff said the Monroe-Oxford Community program will begin this week with Oxford bringing four students and staff into a shared program; principals plan presentations to the board once the joint program is underway.
