Monroe School District reports about $1.2 million surplus; board unanimously approves year-end budget transfers

At its meeting, the Monroe School District Board reviewed fund activity statements for May and June and approved year-end budget transfers. Ron reported the district's June fund activity statement shows an overall surplus of "just under $1.2 million," which he said is roughly 1.7% of the overall budget.
Ron attributed the surplus primarily to salary lines where staffing movement left open positions (teacher and special education salaries) and to contingency and lower-than-expected medical/dental rate increases. He also noted certain object codes went over budget (for example, substitutes and some tuition lines), and the transfers before the board are intended to clean up those negative object codes and align the year-end financials.
After discussion Ron noted some smaller cleanup transfers would likely be processed in September if the board does not meet in August. On the motion to approve the year-end budget transfers as presented, Board member Dennis moved and Jerry seconded; the board voted unanimously to approve the transfers.
Board members did not request additional appropriation authority at the meeting; staff characterized the transfers as routine year-end adjustments.
