Monroe CT250 committee votes to pursue $2,000 transfer for events and displays

The Monroe CT250 committee voted unanimously at its February meeting to pursue a $2,000 transfer from the town's bicentennial committee fund to the CT250 committee to support early event planning and materials. The committee chair moved that Nicole Signoli follow up with the finance department and the first selectman's office to request the memorandum and town council approval needed to move the funds; the motion was seconded and carried without opposition.

Committee members said the money would be used for CT250-focused activities, naming banners and flags for Main Street and greens, small prizes for a student art contest, and modest supplies for volunteer events. "He said, '15 2,000.' I said, 'We'll take 2,000,'" a committee member reported about a conversation with town staff who indicated funds could be available if used for CT250 purposes.

Officials emphasized the transfer remains contingent on the town finance department and a formal town council vote. Members noted the municipal budget schedule could delay a final answer until after the town's first budget presentation in early February; Nicole Signoli and other committee volunteers agreed to coordinate with town staff and the Veterans Connection to obtain the required paperwork.

The committee also agreed to continue event planning while awaiting formal approval, creating cost estimates and assigning volunteer leads so activities could launch quickly if the transfer is approved.
