Administrators presented two policy items for first review: an update to FERPA (student records) forms and a comprehensive rewrite of the district Title IX procedure to comply with recent federal and state legal changes. Christine introduced the packet and said there were no major changes to FERPA, while the Title IX rewrite replaces the district's older policy.
Sheila (administrator) told the board the district has trained all staff this year with legal counsel and that the new Title IX approach "allows multiple people within the district to be able to share roles," providing operational flexibility. Sheila said the rewritten policy also adds options such as a restorative resolution pathway "where both parties are agreeable," as an alternative to a full formal investigation when appropriate and lawful.
Board members raised privacy and records‑access questions about student files; administrators explained FERPA procedures currently require sign‑out and locked files with a gatekeeper to control access. The board scheduled second review of the trip and both policies at its next meeting, on Nov. 4.
No policy was adopted at this meeting; the session recorded a first review and staff training and process clarifications that will be brought back for a vote after final edits.
