CWCSEO outlines America250 programming, fall affordability summit and sets meeting calendar priorities

Melvette described America250 commemorations the commission will host beginning June 30 at the Legislative Office Building, including a morning fireside chat and an afternoon panel titled Beyond America250: the Next 25 Years, and a July 1 closing panel focused on civics that will include the Connecticut secretary of the state, Stephanie Thomas, among other invited civic leaders.
Christian, commission staff, announced an economic security/affordability summit planned for Sept. 9 (10 a.m.–3 p.m.) at the Legislative Office Building. The summit will pair data from sources such as the Urban Institute with panels of people with lived experience and breakout brainstorming sessions aimed at developing policy ideas for Connecticut.
Staff also noted the 4th annual Asian American Pacific Islander Education Symposium is tentatively planned for Aug. 14, and asked board members to register and to share event details. Warner reported a Latino and Puerto Rican subcommission forum scheduled for Sept. 17 (2–4 p.m.) in coordination with the Puerto Rican Connecticut Trade Commission; state legislators (including Sen. Cabrera and Rep. Chris Rosario) and board members are expected participants.
On internal operations, staff asked board members for constraints and nonnegotiable dates as they draft the FY27 meeting calendar (the fiscal year begins July 1). The commission proposed keeping a previous cadence of a September retreat followed by meetings every other month, and staff reminded members that statutory attendance rules could remove members who miss three meetings.
The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn was moved by Liz Baumgartner and seconded by Umesh Vig.
