Commission approves sheriff appointment, recognizes retirement, OKs small budget shift and invoices

During the June 23 meeting the Hampshire County Commission approved multiple routine administrative items.
The commission granted final approval for the sheriff's appointment of Drew Bolan as chief deputy of investigations effective July 1, 2026, following a motion and voice vote. The commission also recognized the honorable retirement of Lieutenant Lonnie II, whose last day will be July 7, 2026, after more than 24 years of service; commissioners thanked him for his service.
The commission approved probate orders, fiduciary appointments and bonds presented by the clerk and executed required assessor oaths and certificates. The sheriff requested and received approval for a budget revision moving $2,281 from the investigations account to the training account. Commissioners approved submitted invoices covering expenditures since the last meeting.
In public comment, a resident who had previously contacted the clerk asked the commission to consider replacing broken and leaking windows at a local station and provided two quotes. Commissioners said they would place the matter on the next agenda and work with the department and local contractors to obtain additional information and insurance confirmation.
Next steps: the clerk and staff will follow up on the station-window quotes and insurance coverage and will include the facility request on the next commission agenda; budget and personnel items will be processed per county procedure.
