Waterford approves METRO Act permit for Gateway Infrastructure LLC

The Charter Township of Waterford Board on June 8 approved a METRO Act permit application from Gateway Infrastructure LLC that governs telecommunications facilities in the public right-of-way. Deputy Clerk Kari Vlaeminck presented the application and supporting memo; township attorney Joellen Shortley and township engineer Rob Merinsky reviewed and negotiated permit terms.
The memo notes the METRO Act is intended to standardize permit processing for telecommunications providers in Michigan, prevent excessive fees and delays, and require municipalities to issue determinations within 45 days. The township will collect the $500 permit application fee and require a bond with each disruption permit submitted under the use request.
Trustee Jeff Gilbert moved to approve the permit and to authorize Supervisor Anthony Bartolotta to sign the METRO Act Permit; Trustee Steve Thomas seconded. A roll-call vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously.
The approved permit allows Gateway Infrastructure LLC to apply for excavation or other right-of-way work under the agreed terms; each individual disruption permit will still be reviewed and bonded as required by the township’s ordinances.
