The Township Board on June 8 approved adjustments to recognize and allocate the state’s 2026 Public Safety Revenue Sharing distribution totaling $184,931. Under state guidance, at least 75% of the distribution must be used for law enforcement purposes; Waterford will allocate 75% ($138,698) to the Police Department and 25% ($46,233) to the Fire Department.
Barbara Miller presented the revenue-sharing memo, which described allowable uses (recruitment, retention, training, equipment, and certain public safety programs). To reflect the allocation the board approved, Police Department revenue account #20701-56700 will be increased by $138,698 and Police expense account #20730-96330 will be increased by the same amount. Fire Department revenue account #20601-56700 will be increased by $46,233, with Fire Department expense accounts #20630-76800 increased by $31,233 and #20630-97138 increased by $15,000. General Fund revenue account #10101-57407 will be reduced by $86,350 to reconcile budgeting entries.
Trustee Jeff Gilbert moved approval; Trustee Gary Wall seconded. A roll-call vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously.
