NECCOG CEO roundtable schedules roaming-animal meeting, urges opioid guidance and flags avian-flu disposal site

At the April 28 NECCOG meeting the CEO roundtable reported several community-safety and public-health items for regional coordination.
Members said a meeting to address roaming-animal nuisance will be held May 6 at a town hall with local residents, the commanding officer of the state police, Representative Anne Dauphinais and Senator Heather Somers expected to attend. The roundtable also recommended that municipalities request guidance from Attorney General William Tong on opioid education and regional approaches to addiction-response education.
The minutes additionally note that, because of an increase in avian flu, the Department of Agriculture must identify a disposal site for diseased animals and that Voluntown is under consideration as a potential site. The items were recorded as roundtable discussion points and next steps were described as coordination and requests to state offices or agencies, not formal board actions.
The board adjourned at 10:06 a.m. following the CEO roundtable items.
