The CRAG Transportation Committee on June 22 recommended approval of eight TIP (Transportation Improvement Program) amendments that move several regional projects forward. Rob, speaking for staff, described five new projects, a low-bid cost adjustment and two removals from the TIP.
Rob highlighted two large items: a roughly $160 million full reconstruction of Route 9 through the center of New Britain — described as more than pavement rehab and involving full pavement replacement, drainage work and noise walls — and a major I‑84 westbound bridge improvement in West Hartford that spans local ramps and requires complex stacked geometry. He also noted trail projects for the East Coast Greenway in Simsbury, Bloomfield and Hartford, a signal-replacement package covering 12 locations (three within CRAG), and a multijurisdiction bridge mill-and-fill package affecting multiple towns.
A motion to recommend the amendments (mover: Steve; second: Doug Wilson) passed by voice vote.
Committee members were told that funding sources listed for the projects are appropriate for the project types and that the TIP removals were due either to projects being fully state‑funded or consolidated into other projects.
