Ricky Jones, chairman of the Franklin County Board of County Commissioners, called a special meeting March 25 and the board voted 4-0 to authorize David A. Theriaque, Esquire, and the law firm Theriaque & Spain to serve as interim county attorney through Thursday, May 7, 2026. Compensation was described as “in accordance with the hourly rates that Mr. Theriaque is currently charging the County.”
The approval followed a motion by Commissioner Jessica Ward and a second from Commissioner Cheryl Sanders. Commissioners Ricky Jones, Jessica Ward, Cheryl Sanders and Ottice Amison were present; Commissioner Anthony Croom Jr. was absent. No public-comment cards were submitted for the meeting.
Chairman Ricky Jones thanked Attorney Theriaque “for being willing to help us during this time,” and Attorney Theriaque confirmed he and County Coordinator Michael Moron would coordinate contact details and next steps. The board recorded the action as carried by a 4-0 vote.
The appointment is effective immediately and set to expire on May 7, 2026, unless the board takes further action before that date. The meeting adjourned after brief scheduling discussion about a rescheduled executive session.
