Commission reviews Scout House access codes, drainage plans and court resurfacing timetable

The Sherman Park and Recreation Commission discussed several facilities issues at the April 13 meeting, including access control for the Scout House, cleanup of construction debris, signage for Munch Meadows, and plans for court resurfacing.

Kris Fazzone said group-specific access codes will be issued for the Scout House and that the system should be ready by May 1, 2026; commissioners discussed a scheduling calendar and who would inspect the building after group use. JodiAnn Eure requested the ability to schedule Park and Recreation activities in the Scout House; Stephen Frattini noted most renovations are complete but a few minor touches remain.

Kris Fazzone reported construction garbage from a nearby church had blown into Colonial Field and up against the far fence and into the woods; he asked Director John Wrenn to contact Father Robert Wolf to arrange cleanup. Commissioners also discussed church parking overflowing into the Community Gardens and along the stone wall near Colonial Field and suggested churchgoers could use the Colonial Field lot instead of parking on grass.

Commissioners reviewed plans for signage at Munch Meadows and asked members to walk the Scout House site and recommend landscaping and drainage ideas; one suggested solution was a lined trench filled with small round stone. Regarding courts, the outdoor basketball court is playable but imperfect; resurfacing may be scheduled late this fall or next spring and could be coordinated with the tennis courts to reduce costs.

The Commission decided to purchase a tablecloth printed with the Sherman Park and Recreation logo rather than buying a pop-up tent and tablecloth.
