Trails group schedules June 19 site visit for Bear Trap Meadow grant and updates trail projects

Austin Burgess, speaking for the Central Trails Alliance during public comment, said the group will host a grant‑review site visit for the Bear Trap Meadow project on June 19 and asked that trustees and staff be available for the 1–3 p.m. visit.

"Our visit is from 1 to 3," Burgess said, and asked that staff and interested trustees attend so the grant reviewers can see planned shelter placements and concept corridor alignments. He described the proposed Bear Trap Meadow segment as "about a one one and a half mile total trail... beginner level trail with an adaptive piece," and said the tread would use crushed stone to avoid encroaching on the meadow.

Burgess said the Bear Trap alignment would connect into Deer Haven and the Caster Mountain trail system without crossing city property, creating a stacked‑loop network for users. He also updated trustees on other local trail work: Rotary Park cleanup after a storm (including removal of debris and graffiti mitigation) and the Crimson Dawn Trail, which he said is "over halfway complete" and projected to finish next Wednesday; he noted crews had to transport water to some sites because of dry conditions.

The public update provided staff and trustees with a near‑term schedule (June 19 grant visit) and implementation details—trail length, surfacing approach and connection points—that staff can use in planning and in conversations with grant reviewers.
