Commission approves pavilion use, waives fees for community events

The Sherman Park and Recreation Commission approved three pavilion-use requests and waived associated fees during its April 13, 2026 meeting. Chairman Fran Frattini called the meeting to order at 7:20 p.m.
The Commission approved a request from the New Fairfield track team to use the Town Park pavilion all day on Saturday, June 14, 2026, after Director John Wrenn said the pavilion was already rented on the team’s requested June 7 date. The motion to approve the June 14 reservation and waive the fee was made by T.J. Fazzone, seconded by Kris Fazzone and passed with all members voting in favor.
The Commission also approved an application from DAWG (disaster and wilderness ground searchers) to use the Town Park pavilion and parking lot for a weekend program on Friday through Sunday, May 8–10, 2026. The group expects 20–25 participants with a few RVs camping in the parking lot; many participants will drive locally each day. T.J. Fazzone moved to approve the DAWG request and waive the fee; Stephen Frattini seconded and the motion was unanimously approved.
Commissioners approved, retroactively, the use of the Town Park for the annual Easter Sunrise Service that took place on April 5, 2026. Kris Fazzone moved to approve the prior event’s use of the pavilion; T.J. Fazzone seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Procedural notes: the Commission recorded each vote as “with all in favor.” The minutes from the March 9, 2026 meeting were also approved during the same meeting by unanimous vote.
The approvals leave the Commission with the schedule for the pavilion through early summer and reflect the body’s practice of waiving fees for certain community and volunteer-run events.
