Pleasantville council asks engineer to work with homeowner after stormwater complaint

The council reviewed a response from property owner Josh Kitsis, who said the sump pump discharge did not create a safety issue or nuisance. Council Member Kyle Patterson and others referenced photos submitted by a neighbor showing a significant amount of ice accumulation in the street during winter. City engineer Joey Whitehouse said engineering staff evaluated the issue and recommended options; Kitsis objected to the engineer's suggested directional drilling solution, saying mixed pipe materials would create problems.
Council moved to authorize the city engineer to work with the agreed-upon contractor and the homeowner to identify an alternative solution and return to council with a proposal. Motion by Aaron Hurt, seconded by Jon Koehn, carried unanimously.
The engineer will evaluate technical options, estimated costs and feasible connections to the storm sewer and report back to council; no construction funding or timeline was decided at the July 15 meeting.
