Pleasantville — The council granted the Pleasantville Youth Initiative (PYI) a temporary, partial closure of S Jefferson Street and approved the group's site plan at the May 20 meeting.
Mike Caulkins, representing the Pleasantville Youth Initiative, asked for roughly a two-month extension of a closure while trusses are installed. Council members discussed public-safety concerns and options to keep one travel lane open. By motion, the council approved a partial street closure on S Jefferson adjacent to the PYI property, keeping one lane open for travel, and ordered the whole street opened on June 14 to accommodate the Pig Out celebration. Kyle Patterson made the motion and Mayor Pro Tem Rachel Lopez seconded; all present voted in favor.
Separately the council approved the PYI site plan after Rachel Reed said the planning and zoning commission and engineer V&K had approved the permit. The site plan includes two handicap ramps—on the west and north sides—and the north ramp will tie into Lakefront Living to provide an ADA-accessible path. Aaron Hurt moved to approve the site plan; Patterson seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Next steps: the partial closure will be enforced per the council's motion and Public Works and PYI will coordinate logistics; city staff will record the site-plan approval and process permits.
