Casey council declines sewer-fee waiver for pool filling; approves insurance and housing contribution

The Casey City Council on July 1 voted not to waive sewer charges for water used to fill private swimming pools until the City’s Code of Ordinances is updated to allow such waivers. The motion to not waive sewer fees was moved by Councilmember Theresa Schiller and seconded by Councilmember Leland Acker; the minutes record the vote as ayes—Richter, Blake, Acker and Schiller, with Councilmember Wedemeyer absent.
During the clerk’s report, City Clerk Gwen Blass said she will attend street finance report training in Adel on July 24 and that speed limit signs have been ordered. The council accepted a quote for property and liability insurance coverage from ICAP Insurance for fiscal year 2025 (motion by Schiller, second by Richter; vote recorded ayes—Richter, Blake, Acker and Schiller; absent—Wedemeyer).
Public Works Director Jon Welker reported that dead trees have been removed from all city parks. The council discussed the DNR wastewater permit; Libby from Veenstra & Kimm told the council the expected timeline to comply is about 4½ years, with the possibility of an additional 10½-year extension under certain conditions, according to the minutes.
The council also approved routine agenda and consent items, including minutes and bills, and voted to adjourn at 8:05 p.m. There were no public forum comments recorded at the meeting.
