At its March 16 meeting the City Council of the City of Chariton took several routine and procedural actions.
The council set a public hearing on the proposed property tax levy for fiscal year 2026-2027 for April 6, 2026, at 4:15 p.m. in Council Chambers (motion by Gary Shutt, second by Jayma Davis). An ordinance amending Chapter 10.12 of the Chariton Municipal Code (adding stop signs at 16th Street and Lucas Avenue) was introduced and given its first reading (motion by Gary Shutt, second by Cameron Storm).
Owner Cale Driskill requested a zoning change or variance to allow part of the structure at 325 North 11th Street to be used as a dwelling. Council directed the City Attorney, City Manager and Building and Code Enforcement Officer to prepare a special-use ordinance for the specified zone and return it for further review (motion by Stephen Fenton, second by Cameron Storm).
Council asked that the resolution authorizing purchase of police dash cameras be held until internet service is installed at the Law Center, and requested that an application for reserve-officer weapons be presented as a resolution for future consideration. Council approved purchase of a WeedWolf mower attachment for use by the street department and cemetery (motion Storm, second Shutt); vote unanimous. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m., and the next meeting was scheduled for April 6, 2026.
