Chariton board approves construction pay applications, investigator designations and open-enrollment requests

The Chariton Community School Board on Aug. 12 approved several construction payments and personnel items and set administrative procedures for the coming school year.
In a series of motions the board approved Pay Application No. 4 for $150,009.84 and Pay Application No. 5 for $35,316.59 for the Columbus and Van Allen window project after a motion by Ryan Dachenbach and a second from Jarid Howell; the board recorded a 5-0 vote in favor. The board also approved Pay Application No. 1 for $53,683.55 for the high school science HVAC renovation (motion by Sarah Willis, second by Ryan Dachenbach) and Pay Application No. 2 for $61,555.25 (motion by Becky Shelton, second by Jarid Howell); both motions carried 5-0.
The board designated administrators Jayme Braida, Josh Morgan, Alan Schwarte, Tracy Hall and Tim Milledge as Level I investigators and the Chariton Police Department as the Level II investigator for incidents requiring investigation. Becky Shelton made the motion; Sarah Willis seconded and the board voted 5-0 to approve the designations.
During the consent agenda, which passed 5-0 on a motion by Ryan Dachenbach and second by Becky Shelton, the board approved minutes from the July 10 meeting, accepted the resignation of CeAnna Dixon (associate at the high school), approved multiple hires and an internal transfer to full-time associate/media specialist at the high school, and accepted the monthly treasurer report and August bills.
The board approved multiple open-enrollment applications, including several transfers out to Clayton Ridge, Albia Community, Mormon Trail and Melcher-Dallas and one transfer into Chariton; Sarah Willis moved, Jarid Howell seconded and the motion carried 5-0. The minutes do not list student names or other identifying details.
A motion by Jarid Howell to approve the final reading of the Preschool, Elementary, Middle School and High School handbook changes for 2024–25 is recorded in the minutes, but the transcript does not record a seconder or the result of a vote on that motion.
The meeting adjourned at 7:02 p.m. after a motion by Sarah Willis and a second by Ryan Dachenbach that carried 5-0.
