Chariton council adopts routine resolutions, approves permit and records board changes

The Chariton City Council on Jan. 5 adopted a slate of organizational resolutions, authorized airport grant data-sheet submittals and approved routine permits and board changes.
Council adopted a resolution naming the Chariton Leader as the official city newspaper (Resolution 2026-02); a resolution naming depositories of city funds and setting maximum deposits (Resolution 2026-03); and a resolution authorizing designated officials to execute certain financial institution documents (Resolution 2026-04). The council also adopted Resolution 2026-05 authorizing submittal of FY2027 Airport Improvement Program data sheets for possible FAA grants.
An ordinance titled 'An Ordinance Amending Chapters 18.16 and 18.36 of the Chariton Municipal Code (Zoning Change)' was introduced and given its first reading. Council approved the Solid Waste Collection Permit for Country Trash of Melcher, Iowa. The consent agenda included approval of a Class C Retail Alcohol License for El Ojo De Agua, d/b/a Casa De Oro, at 123 North Main Street.
Council accepted with regret resignations from Alicia McGee (Library Board), Ann Hamilton and Nancy Lahart (Board of Adjustment). Mayor Jayma Hoch appointed Sarah Hunkele to the Library Board to fill a vacancy, with a term to expire July 1, 2029. The council also voted to support an Oktoberfest fundraiser proposed by Almost Home Animal Rescue and requested that the organizer keep the council informed as planning continues.
All recorded votes on the described items were unanimous.
