Chariton council elects Jayma Hoch mayor, reappoints key city officials

At its Jan. 5 meeting the Chariton City Council unanimously elected Jayma Hoch mayor and Stephen Fenton mayor pro tem, administered oaths, and reappointed City Manager Douglas Anderson, City Clerk/Treasurer Christy Metzger and City Attorney Verle Norris.
The City Council of the City of Chariton elected Jayma Hoch mayor and Stephen Fenton mayor pro tem during its Jan. 5 meeting and administered oaths of office, the council said.
The unanimous vote to elect Jayma Hoch was moved by Council Member Stephen Fenton and seconded by Council Member Gary Shutt. The council then elected Stephen Fenton mayor pro tem in a unanimous vote (moved Shutt, seconded Fenton). Oaths of office for both officials were administered and affirmed at the meeting.
Council also reappointed Douglas Anderson as city manager (moved Mayor Hoch, seconded Shutt), Christy Metzger as city clerk/treasurer (moved Fenton, seconded Shutt), and Verle Norris as city attorney (moved Shutt, seconded Fenton). Each reappointment was approved by unanimous roll call.
The council approved its consent agenda, which included the Dec. 15, 2025 meeting minutes and the issuance of a Class C Retail Alcohol License for El Ojo De Agua, d/b/a Casa De Oro at 123 North Main Street.
A resolution authorizing payment of claims was adopted and numbered Resolution 2026-01. The council adjourned the meeting at 5:54 p.m. and scheduled its next regular meeting for 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 19, 2026.
