Council: trash day to shift to Monday; Kluesner Sanitation to take over services and cleanup schedule adjusted

Interim City Administrator and Finance Director Sarah Tritle told the council on March 10 that Kluesner Sanitation will change the citywide trash collection day to Monday for all residents beginning July 6, 2026. Staff announced an open house on the new trash services on April 29 with sessions from 9–11 a.m. and 6–8 p.m.
Tritle said staff discussed discontinuing the fall cleanup days because participation has declined while costs have increased; the new leaf pickup charge is intended to help offset administrative costs without raising resident fees. Under the new arrangements, Kluesner will assist with spring cleanup days starting in 2027, while Rudd Sanitation will perform the spring cleanup in 2026. The city will provide two year-round cardboard dumpsters at the compost site and staff will investigate adding a separate clean metal bin for fall collection.
Council directed staff to implement the schedule changes and to provide public notices to residents about the new trash day and the open houses. No formal council action was recorded beyond the informational report and subsequent resolutions addressing other agenda items.
The clerk’s office and the participating sanitation contractors will post operational details and any updates on the city website and at City Hall.
