Resident group asks for pole-painting help; council hears speed-limit and funding requests and sets Oct. 31 trick-or-treat

Brenda Dudley of the White Pole Road Scenic Byway asked the Casey City Council on Sept. 5 to help repaint poles along White Pole Road, requesting either a $1,000 city donation or volunteer manpower; she said the scenic byway group would supply primer and paint. Mayor Nicholas Lindberg told the group the city faces state restrictions on donations to public entities and suggested recruiting volunteers via the Casey Flyer and the city’s Facebook page.

During the public forum, resident Teresa Schildberg asked council members to review whether speed limit signs are needed on Baker Street. The matter was referred for council review; no action was recorded at the meeting.

Doug Wedemeyer asked the council to raise CWT funding from $7,000 to $12,000. Councilmember Rick Richter asked the CWT Association to provide financial information before the council would consider increasing the allocation.

Clerk Gwen Blass provided a written clerk’s report and asked whether the council wanted the clerk to order lighted stop signs now or wait for additional grant funds; the council chose to wait for additional funds. Public Works Director Jon Welker reported operational work with Menlo public works to get their oiler running, discussed sharing costs for bulk oil and chip rock, and noted a large water leak on E. Hayes; Welker recommended E. Hayes be the first water line replaced when the water project begins. He also reported the wastewater permit is now active.

The council agreed to set Oct. 31 as the city’s trick-or-treat night and will verify any necessary street closures at the October meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:07 p.m.
