Interim city attorney Spencer Hos told the council the owner received a notice on Nov. 16 and the 30‑day response period expired with no reply. The notice gave the owner the option to demolish the structure; absent a response, the city may demolish the garage and assess costs to the property.
Hos recommended the council have staff prepare a final letter with a demolition date and pursue a demolition contractor; council directed staff to prepare an RFP and set a mid‑January demolition window if necessary. Council members clarified the action applies only to the structure (the garage), not demolition of the whole lot.
The council then moved to authorize staff to proceed with the administrative steps necessary to schedule demolition if the owner does not act; roll call recorded unanimous approval.
City staff said the city will send a final letter giving occupants time to remove personal items before demolition and will assess the demolition cost against the property in accordance with existing procedures.
