The Carter Lake City Council approved several items on Wednesday, including the Prairie Flower Casino sign request, a switch to a pooled health-insurance plan effective Oct. 1, and a wage resolution hiring a seasonal parks maintenance worker.
Prairie Flower Casino signage: Troy, representing an Omaha sign company, described the proposed sign as "about 40 square feet" with an 8-foot bottom clearance and said it was structurally minimal. Planning staff had flagged the sign as not conforming to some local sign classifications, so the matter came before the council. After discussion the council voted to approve the sign by unanimous roll call.
Health insurance: City staff presented a comparison that, according to the packet, showed approximately $55,000 in annual savings if the city joined a larger pooled plan; staff said some employees would pay less in premiums and that the change would be effective Oct. 1. During discussion one council member referenced a different savings total; the council nonetheless voted unanimously to adopt the new plan effective Oct. 1.
Wage resolution: The council approved a wage-resolution appointment for Aiden Chambers as a seasonal parks maintenance worker at $16 per hour.
Votes at a glance: Prairie Flower Casino sign — Approved (unanimous); Health-insurance plan adoption — Approved effective Oct. 1 (unanimous); Resolution to hire Aiden Chambers — Approved (unanimous).
What’s next: Staff will implement the insurance change for the October 1 effective date and the seasonal hire will be added to payroll per the approved resolution.
