Sherman selectmen send $67,000 in appropriations and an appointment to Town Meeting
Summary
The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to forward a $25,000 farm maintenance appropriation and a $42,000 property-management appropriation to the June Town Meeting and appointed Michael Conforti to the Conservation Commission.
The Town of Sherman Board of Selectmen voted April 23 to send two annual appropriations totaling $67,000 to Town Meeting and to appoint a new Conservation Commission member.
First Selectman Don Lowe told the board that Item E, a $25,000 appropriation funded from accumulated cell-tower revenue, covers routine farm maintenance for fiscal year 7/1/2026–6/30/2027. The board approved the motion to send the appropriation to Town Meeting by a unanimous vote; the motion was seconded by Selectman Bob Ostrosky.
Lowe also explained Item F, a $42,000 appropriation funded from the Happy Acres Restricted Fund, would fund contracted property-management services for the same fiscal year. That appropriation was likewise sent to Town Meeting after a unanimous vote.
The board appointed Michael Conforti as a full commissioner to the Conservation Commission for a three-year term ending Jan. 1, 2029. First Selectman Don Lowe moved the appointment; Selectman Joel Bruzinski seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Other routine actions included the board's unanimous approval of minutes from five March meetings and a motion to send an amendment to Health and Building Department fees to Town Meeting. Business Manager Liz LaVia reminded the board that the mill rate still must be set after the budget is adopted.
The board took the votes during its regular meeting at Mallory Town Hall. The actions will appear on the next Town Meeting agenda for formal approval.
