CROG policy board adopts regional transportation safety action plan, sets Vision 0 goal for 2040

The CROG Policy Board voted to adopt the regional Transportation Safety Action Plan, a data-driven framework funded through a USDOT Safe Streets and Roads for All grant that sets a Vision 0 goal of zero fatal and serious crashes by 2040.

Roger Kron, presenter for the safety plan, said the plan analyzes five years of crash data, maps fatal and serious crash locations across the region, and identifies priority projects and non‑infrastructure strategies such as education, enforcement and post‑crash care. "We developed GIS mapping tools where you can dig deeper into locations and specific crash attributes," Kron said.

The plan rests on a Vision 0 task force that met 13 times and included outreach workshops for elected leaders and local stakeholders. Kron told the board the plan provides municipal‑level maps showing priority project locations and countermeasures that local officials can use when seeking grant funding.

Supporters said the plan will help towns document safety problems and pursue construction and planning grants. Peter Souza thanked staff and the advisory committee for the work and said the plan will save municipalities time when addressing safety concerns and applying for grants.

The board adopted the resolution by voice vote. The plan is posted on CROG's website and includes monitoring tools that show trend lines for fatalities and serious crashes; staff said ongoing work will focus on implementation and tracking progress.

The adoption completes the planning phase; next steps include local project development, grant applications and continued regional coordination.
