Split vote as Geary County overrides CVB advisory board to fund Mudd Bogg; CVB trade show attendance approved

CVB Director Raquel Cinco requested approval for staff to represent the county at the Colorado trade show with a booth cost of $3,695; commissioners approved CVB attendance after Giordano moved and Chairman Kathy Tremont seconded the motion. Commissioner Keith Ascher was not present for that initial vote, which passed with two ayes.
Later in the meeting Commissioners debated whether the CVB Advisory Board’s approval of a $1,000 allocation to Mudd Bogg might be perceived as duplicative support for Freedom Fest, an event historically tied to Mudd Bogg and Blue & BBQ. Commissioner Giordano emphasized she was expressing a personal opinion and not speaking for the full commission; CVB Director Raquel Cinco said she was concerned the override could create friction with the advisory board.
Commissioner Ascher moved to override the advisory board and approve the $1,000 payment to Mudd Bogg; Chairman Tremont seconded. The motion passed 2–1, with Giordano voting no. Commissioners noted transient guest tax receipts have declined and discussed the role of the CVB advisory board versus the commission in event allocations.
The commission also approved routine change order 2026000063 and the minutes from Feb. 9, 2026 before adjourning.
