The Geary County Commission unanimously approved a $20,000 contribution to a countywide marketing campaign and completed a series of routine administrative actions at its March 9, 2026 adjourned meeting.
Commissioner Trish Giordano told the board she will request $20,000 from county funds to support a CVB‑led marketing push to promote local events and increase visitation amid declining transient guest tax receipts. Raquel Cinco, Geary County CVB Director, and Sam Adams, CVB Marketing Director, outlined plans to hire consultants, coordinate with Junction City, Mainstreet and Fort Riley, and measure return on investment. The commission voted to provide the requested funds; Giordano made the motion, Commissioner Keith Ascher seconded and the vote was unanimous.
The meeting also cleared multiple personnel and administrative requests. The commission approved attendance at the CPM leadership course for Register of Deeds Jacqie Reisinger and County Appraiser Travis Lilly (early‑bird tuition $3,900 each). Deputy County Clerk Therese Hoff presented and the commission approved tax roll change orders #2026000095–2026000156 to correct clerical errors affecting real estate, personal property and truck listings.
Community Corrections Director Chrysann Phipps presented the FY27 adult and juvenile comprehensive plans and budgets. The board approved both budgets and adopted both plans by unanimous votes. Health Department Director Charles Martinez requested signature on three state public‑health grant applications covering July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027; the commission authorized signatures.
Commissioners also agreed to participate in an OLDCC installation‑resilience tabletop exercise under a Memorandum of Agreement with a local match not to exceed $833; GIS/Zoning Director Troy Livingston was designated as the county point of contact. Emergency Management Director Garry Berges opened bids for Fire Station #4 and will return with a recommendation after review with architect Brett Deam.
The board approved the March 2, 2026 minutes and adjourned at 12:58 p.m.
