Pella City Council recognized the Police Department’s recent national accreditation during its regular meeting.
Chief Shan M told the council the accreditation followed a three‑year effort and represents a set of best practices, policies and physical requirements that make the agency more “professionally” organized and legally defensible. “This is a forever deal now,” he said, adding the department will continue annual audits and a full re‑accreditation cycle in four years. The mayor and council applauded the staff and noted a plaque from the accrediting body will hang at the police station.
City officials credited a mix of sworn officers, civilian staff and communications personnel for the work. No formal action was required; the council’s remarks were recognition and public thanks for the department’s achievement.
