Finance Director Tami Robison presented biweekly finance reports to the Geary County Commission on Feb. 9, reporting that the Finance and Treasurer's Office statements were in balance and that the county's general ledger reflected an ending balance of $39,349,030.92.
Robison said sales tax collections were above last year, noting the general fund is $5,196 ahead and the hospital debt fund is $980 ahead year-over-year. She outlined CIP activity: January revenue into CIP included interest income and a $72,500 transfer for EMS; the ending 2025 and beginning 2026 CIP cash balance was $4,081,826.02. After accounting for unencumbered cash and pending approved projects, Robison projected a 2026 CIP cash balance of $2,599,639.35.
Robison asked where funds for a potential Public Works land purchase would come from and told commissioners she would initiate a $145,000 payment to the City of Junction City for EMS if the board was in consensus; the board agreed and she will make that payment. Robison also presented building cash flow reports that show a 2025 ending/2026 beginning building fund cash balance of $440,539.75 and projected 2026 building fund balance of $680,376.55 after a pending $12,000 project.
The commission scheduled a discussion with department heads on Feb. 23 to review the county finance policy and purchase card program to ensure consistent employee treatment. The board also discussed quotes for front doors at the Pennell Building and directed Public Works Administrator Jeremie Myers to continue gathering information.
