Geary County approves Cox bore, Morris County RWD waterline, noxious weed plan and crack‑sealing purchase

The Geary County Commission approved several Public Works and infrastructure items at its March 2 meeting, including permits and procurement recommendations brought by Public Works Administrator Jeremie Myers.
Myers presented and the commission approved a petition from Cox Communications to construct a 2,925‑foot bore of 2" FIC along Budden Road and Cedar Road, with five new vaults, four pedestals and one cabinet within Geary County right‑of‑way. Commissioner Trish Giordano moved to approve the request; Commissioner Keith Ascher seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The commission also approved a Morris County Rural Water District #1 request to install a waterline to serve an agricultural customer (Eric Eickholt). Myers recommended approval and the motion carried with unanimous support.
Noxious Weed Director Jason Britt presented the 2026 Annual Noxious Weed Eradication Progress Report prepared under KSA 2‑1316 and the 2026 Noxious Weed Management Plan (goals, priority infestations, enforcement measures and collaboration with state and federal agencies). Commissioner Keith Ascher moved to approve both documents; Commissioner Giordano seconded and the commission approved them unanimously.
For routine road maintenance, Myers reported two quotes for crack‑sealing material: Crafco ($15,876.00 for 25,200 lbs.) and McConnel Associated ($17,571.00 for 23,400 lbs.). Myers recommended purchasing the Crafco material from the Public Works asphalt line; Commissioner Giordano moved to accept the Crafco quote and the motion passed. Myers noted additional daily machine and heat‑lance rental costs will be obtained at the lowest available price.
Myers also presented a letter of public notice to pursue U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development funding to repair aging water and sewer distribution pipes and add sewer lines to platted lots; the estimated project cost is $930,963.00. The commission approved publishing the notice (Sewer #4).
Myers announced the Assistant Public Works Administrator position had been filled by Lee Anderson (effective Feb. 28, 2026) and asked the commission if assigning a vehicle for after‑hours emergencies was acceptable; the commission indicated no objection.
These approvals were routine, passed by unanimous votes, and will proceed to contracting or publication as appropriate. Staff will return with further procurement details or implementation steps as required.
