A Montgomery high‑school sophomore and Life Scout outlined an Eagle Scout project to add a short boardwalk at Hobler Park that officials say will improve accessibility and reduce erosion.
"My name is Ryan Babler. I'm a life scout as part of Troop 46," Babler told the committee, explaining his plan for a 30‑foot boardwalk raised about 6 inches and 5 feet wide with ramps for accessibility. He said construction would take two build sessions in October using troop volunteers and adult supervision and that the work would use pressure‑treated or ground‑contact wood for longevity.
Committee members and the mayor praised Babler’s initiative. The chair called the presentation "very eloquent," and several members thanked him and said they looked forward to seeing the completed project. The committee invited Babler to return after the Eagle Scout project is finished so members can see the result in person.
Township staff and the committee said the boardwalk would highlight an underused park near Village Elementary School and improve the walking loop by making the muddy section passable for residents.
