Administrator reports wastewater-plant construction progress, pedestrian crossing nearing completion; arts committee proposed

The township administrator provided an update on infrastructure projects and a proposed cultural initiative.

Wastewater plant: staff reported that work on one clarifier is complete and the second clarifier is underway. A new effluent pump station and stormwater pump station are under construction; the sludge holding tank is approximately 75% complete. Two changes were required in the field: (1) an access adjustment around a pipe to preserve future access beneath a wall and (2) additional micropile drilling after weaker-than-expected soil was encountered during borings. Staff reported no treatment disruptions and that DEP permit requirements are being met; conservative completion was estimated at about 18 months from the meeting date.

Pedestrian crossing: the DOT contractor was completing the final phase of a pedestrian-crossing project at Route 206 and Orchard Road with sidewalks, ramping, crosswalk striping, lighting and added signage; staff expected work to finish next week.

Public arts committee: the administrator proposed establishing a mayoral ad hoc public arts committee to curate rotating exhibits in the municipal center lobby, develop application procedures for local artists, consider residency or regional guidelines and handle scheduling and installation logistics. Committee members expressed support and discussed outreach to local arts organizations and students.

Next steps: staff will bring periodic construction updates and a fuller wastewater report to upcoming meetings; the committee asked for follow-up details on timing and any additional project costs.
