The Dennis Select Board on March 31 authorized the town administrator to execute a change order with CDM Smith Inc. for additional design services related to the wastewater recovery project.
Public Works (Mike Lavin) explained the amendment is needed because Department of Environmental Protection constraints require the town to move some Phase 1 work to Site 2 earlier than planned. The change order covers design for the effluent pumping station at Town Hall/Site 2, recharge-area design, DEP permitting, SRF support and bidding documents and was presented in the amount of $973,000. Lavin told the board the contract remains within the previously encumbered amount because the initial design came in under budget.
A motion to authorize the town administrator to execute the change order was moved, seconded and approved by the board. The authorization directs Public Works to finalize design and proceed to the bidding process while coordinating permitting and SRF financing steps.
Why it matters: the change order advances a major local infrastructure project (wastewater conveyance and pump station) necessary to meet DEP requirements and to keep the wastewater-recovery project on the town’s planned timeline. The amount and permitting steps will be relevant to future finance and construction decisions.
