Town Manager outlines small-business seminar, annual meeting timing, beach erosion work and private dredging at Clinton Harbor

Town Manager Michelle Benivegna told the Town of Clinton Council on Jan. 21 that the town will host a free Small Business Breakfast and Financing Seminar on Jan. 27, 8–10 a.m., in the Green Room, with panelists from the Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development, Community Investment Corporation, Connecticut Economic Development Fund, the Women's Business Development Council and Liberty Bank. Benivegna said RSVPs should go through the Town Manager's office.
Benivegna also said the Annual Town Meeting might be rescheduled because of weather; department reports have been emailed to council members and, if canceled, the meeting would be rescheduled for Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. to comply with the town charter.
On coastal matters, Benivegna reported the town contracted RACE in 2023 for a preliminary shoreline assessment and again in 2025 for advanced sediment analysis and long-term design alternatives. Interim sandbags have been installed to address ongoing erosion; she said funding for permanent construction has not yet been secured. Separately, Benivegna said Patriot Marine, LLC is performing private dredging at Old Harbor Marina through the end of January and that this private work is separate from the federal channel dredging project led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Benivegna closed with a staffing note: Parks & Recreation has a part-time position available and interested applicants should contact the department.
Why it matters: The shoreline analysis and interim measures indicate ongoing erosion concerns that will require future funding and design choices; the private dredging affects harbor operations in the near term and is distinct from federally managed dredging.
