Canaan selectmen approve Fire Commission changes, name two town fire investigators and open three bank accounts

At its Jan. 12 meeting the Board of Selectmen accepted a resignation from the Fire Commission, reappointed a member, appointed a replacement, approved appointing two town firefighters as Fire Investigators after certification, and authorized opening three accounts at Litchfield Savings Bank; all recorded votes were unanimous.
The Town of Canaan Board of Selectmen accepted the resignation of Fire Commission member Kim Mahoney and reappointed Dave Seney at the Jan. 12 meeting. The board also appointed Roxanne Steinberg‑Whittaker to fill the vacancy; motions for these personnel actions were moved, seconded and carried unanimously.
The board reviewed correspondence from Stan (Stanley) McMillan reporting that Chief Robert Carberry and Firefighter Elizabeth Klippel completed State Fire Investigation and Youth Fire Setter coursework and had passed certification. Following that recommendation, the board voted to appoint Chief Carberry and Firefighter Klippel as town Fire Investigators; the motion was moved and seconded and passed unanimously.
Under new business the board set a Town Meeting for Jan. 29, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. to consider funding for the AEA Cobble Road Bridge Study, a possible amendment or rescission of the Annual Report Ordinance and a lease authorization for 107 Main Street. The board also reviewed tenant selection considerations for 107 Main Street and approved thank‑you letters to Ted Moy and Guy Rovezzi.
The board approved opening three new accounts at Litchfield Savings Bank — a STEAP Grant Account, a Bridge Account and an Analysis/ACH money‑market style account to reduce fees and earn higher interest — with the motion carried unanimously. The minutes record no dissent and do not show roll‑call tallies for the unanimous votes.
