Colchester board reviews district operational updates: accreditation, childcare, food services and exam bus plan

No vote was taken; next steps include a self-study and site visits as part of the accreditation process.
The superintendent reported on regional childcare discussions at EASTCONN and described a pilot at Colchester Elementary School associated with Little People’s Play Place, Too; approximately 25 students had signed up for next year’s program. No funding details were provided in the minutes.
Director of Finance and Operations Rachel Linkkila and staff are preparing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for food services. The plan is to release the RFP in July after a June update and to review proposals in time for an August meeting.
Staff and the superintendent described SoundFields classroom audio upgrades; an audio consultant has been engaged and the district plans to order equipment soon with installation scheduled over the summer and during school vacations in the 2025–2026 year.
On transportation, Bacon Academy Principal Amy Begué described an "exam bus" schedule for final exams June 9–11 that would provide an 11:05 a.m. pickup alternative; two routes were proposed with the option to add a third if needed. Principal Begué said families will be asked to indicate which bus students will use and on which days.
The board did not take public votes on these items at the May meeting; all were reported as updates and planned next steps were for future meetings or administrative action.
