Colchester board appoints Meghan Amado as William J. Johnston Middle School principal

The Colchester Board of Education on May 13 unanimously appointed Meghan Amado as principal of William J. Johnston Middle School, effective Aug. 18, 2025. The motion to appoint Amado was made by Margo Gignac and seconded by Stefanie Tracey-Calash; the board recorded the vote as "all in favor."

Amado, who is listed in district records as the CES assistant principal, will serve as interim assistant principal at WJ from July 1 to Aug. 15 before beginning her principalship on Aug. 18. Chair Donna Antonacci and other board members offered congratulations during the meeting.

The appointment was taken as a priority action item on the agenda. No individual vote tallies were provided in the minutes; the board’s minutes record the outcome as unanimously adopted. The board did not attach conditions or amendments to the appointment during the meeting.

The board did not discuss a successor for the assistant principal role at WJ during the public portion of the meeting; Christopher Rivers noted the school will be looking for a new assistant principal following the appointment.
