Colchester Board of Education retreat emphasizes collaboration, community outreach and internal reflection

The Colchester Board of Education met in retreat on May 13, 2025, at 191 East High Street in East Hampton. Chair Donna Antonacci called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM and conducted roll call; seven board members and district administrators were present.
Superintendent Daniel P. Sullivan III reviewed his self-reflection evaluation and said the district has benefited from broad collaboration. He told the board that "everyone is working in collaboration, from the Board to Superintendent to Administration to individual schools and teachers," and that this collaboration has helped create a positive culture throughout the district. Board members discussed that messaging and celebration of progress could help sustain that culture.
Discussion focused on practical steps to promote district goals and get the wider community involved in school events. Members explored ideas for educating residents about the roles and responsibilities of town boards and the school board, and considered outreach strategies to increase public understanding of district priorities.
Participants completed a team-building exercise intended to strengthen working relationships among board members and administration. The board then conducted a self-reflection on the past year, identifying successes and areas for improvement and agreeing to continue work on communication and building community trust.
Vice-Chair Christopher Rivers moved to adjourn; Michelle Millington seconded. The roll call vote was "all in favor," and Chair Donna Antonacci adjourned the retreat at 9:35 PM. The meeting minutes were signed and submitted by Alyssa Fratoni, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent.
