Nichols said he will assess the condition of gravestones that need repair and recommended that restoration experts be hired to work on fragile brownstone monuments. The association discussed applying for a grant from the Neglected Cemetery Fund to pay for professional conservation while volunteers continue to repair and clean other stones; a small volunteer group has been cleaning stones on Thursdays.
Christine Nelson and Cheri Ferrari will assess saplings and invasive plants that need removal. The association also noted Merola Landscaping installed a new fence at the Old Burying Ground before Memorial Day and discussed repainting gateposts.
