Board members reviewed a list of Freedom of Information Act requests received during April'June 2026 and expressed concern that some requests might be AI-generated or part of a business model in which a firm requests public records and then sells them.
An administrator reported reviewing requesters and finding a legitimate company that appears to submit multiple requests using different employee names. "It's a company that essentially goes around government entities, requests FOIAs, and then sells the information, and makes a profit," the presenter said. Board members discussed asking future requesters to confirm whether they are individuals and using that confirmation to pause response deadlines if no reply is received.
Staff said they would look into the pattern and recommend next steps to the board.
