The Village of Mariemont council voted to adopt the 2027 budget and to declare an emergency so the budget can take effect without delay.
Fiscal officer Kelly Ranken told council the county UAN projection she prepared for the village reflects past patterns but includes several anomalies: a one‑time ODNR grant in 2024 that inflated revenues and a nearly $500,000 tax refund that reduced the 2026 ending general fund balance. Ranken said she will produce a clearer forecast, including first‑half actuals and a short projection of expected 2026 expenditures, to help council evaluate levy and spending decisions.
"What I do is I go in and I put in the numbers in 2027 based on prior years," Ranken said, adding she will prepare a first‑half actuals comparison and a forecast for the next meeting.
Councilors pressed for the more detailed forecast before making long‑term tax decisions. After the presentation and the required three readings, the council moved to adopt the budget and the motion carried on a roll call of members present.

What happens next Fiscal officer Kelly Ranken will prepare the requested short forecast and trend history for council review. Council members discussed whether restricted funds should be summarized separately and asked for quarterly reports on income, expenses and unencumbered general fund balances to monitor midyear trends.
