Beaufort County school board elects Carlton Dallas chair; Carr and Frazier named vice chair, secretary

The Beaufort County Board of Education on Jan. 6 elected Carlton Dallas as its chair, selected Mr. Carr as vice chair and appointed Leah Frazier as secretary.
The reorganization took place during the board's first business after opening remarks. Superintendent Dr. Rodriguez opened the floor for nominations; Dallas and Ingrid Boatwright were nominated for chair. Board member "Mister Smith" asked that candidates describe publicly how they would reach the board while campaigning and urged transparency before votes. After a brief discussion about whether candidates would make statements, the board used a show-of-hands vote. The chair announced Dallas had secured the majority of hands and was selected to lead the board.
After the chair's selection, nominations proceeded for vice chair and secretary. Members nominated Mister Ney and Mister Carr for vice chair; the board raised hands and selected Mister Carr. For secretary, Ingrid Boatwright and Leah Frazier were nominated and the board selected Leah Frazier.
"I promise to be inclusive and professional and [look] for how we can best serve the public," Dallas said after his selection, thanking fellow board members for their support.
The reorganization concludes the board's formal officer elections for 2026 and installs a leadership team that, by the board's procedure, will direct committee assignments and meeting flow for the year ahead. The board moved on to committee reports and policy matters after the selections.
