Joe DePaul was elected chair of the Beaufort County Historic Preservation Commission during the meeting on Jan. 7, 2026. The commission then elected Carletha Frazier as vice chair by voice vote.
The votes occurred during the meeting’s organizational business. DePaul nominated himself for chair and, after a second, the commission recorded an affirmative voice vote. Carletha Frazier was nominated and seconded for vice chair and likewise elected.
The commission also selected two members to serve on the Historic Preservation Review Committee (HPRC), which reviews projects administratively: Tim Probst and Lisa Salka were nominated and approved to serve as the two non‑chair HPRC reviewers. The chair is automatically a member of that subcommittee.
The appointments were presented as ministerial housekeeping for the body to ensure HPRC can review projects weekly; no substantive debate accompanied the votes. The commission noted its adjournment policy at the start of the meeting (no new items after 9:30 p.m.) and adopted the prior meeting minutes by voice vote before taking up elections.
The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026.
