License Commission revokes NoHo Social’s all-alcohol license after absence and conflicting leases

The Northampton License Commission voted unanimously on June 17 to revoke the all-alcohol beverage license issued to NoHo Social LLC DBA NoHo Social, concluding the licensee had failed to maintain control of the licensed premises.
The commission opened two statutory public hearings in succession — one under MGL chapter 138 §77 (failure to exercise a license) and another under MGL chapter 138 §64 (failure to maintain control). The license holder did not appear at either hearing. Commissioners noted the licensee’s absence at multiple meetings and told staff the record contained contradictory lease documents (one five-year lease from 2021 and another lease dated 2025), which they said undermined evidence of control of the premises.
"I feel that all evidence has pointed to the license holder having lost all control of the premises and the license at this point," the chair stated during deliberations, and commissioners moved to revoke the license. Staff explained the licensee will receive notice and has the right to appeal to the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC); if the ABCC overturns an appeal, the commission’s scheduled September hearing will remain on the books. If the licensee does not appeal within statutory deadlines, the license will be returned to the city for reissuance.
The commission’s action was procedural and based on the factual record assembled at the hearings; no public commenters appeared during the hearings.
