Town staff: 190–200 Massachusetts Ave plans revised; inspections and safety measures ongoing

Town Manager James Feeney updated the Select Board on June 22 about the 190–200 Massachusetts Ave development. The developer requested reopening of a special permit and the Redevelopment Board approved the revised submission on June 15. Revised plan sets have been submitted to Inspectional Services for building‑code review.
Feeney said the developer modified building egress and added two lifts to address accessibility issues identified during an earlier review. Inspectional Services will perform a comprehensive review; if new exterior changes affecting ARB jurisdiction are needed, the developer must return to the Redevelopment Board.
Staff also described near‑term construction management requirements: adjust fencing to eliminate overhang into the street, maintain an accessible crosswalk push‑button at Mass & Lake, add pedestrian/school crossing signage at a widened temporary crosswalk at Herbert and Randolph, and add visibility protection (cones/barrels/reflectors) at the outer edge of fencing for nighttime safety. Town staff noted the MBTA has raised two complaints about the temporary bus stop location and will monitor whether a relocation (one block east) is necessary.
Feeney said the town is working with the new on‑site construction supervisor to review and enforce the construction management plan. Staff will report back if outstanding issues appear during inspection.
