Franklin County updates private‑road list, adjusts speed limits and restricts commercial truck travel on several rural roads

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners on March 17 approved a package of road‑management measures: additions to the Private Road List, an administrative correction to Hudson Lane, speed‑limit postings requested by petitioners, removal of Sullengers Cedar Lane from the county road list at the property owners’ request, and a new restriction limiting commercial motor vehicle travel on a set of county roads.
Specific approvals included adding Debora Lane, Hessely Lane, Pine Bluff Court and Pine Bluff Trace to the private‑road list and approving a petition to remove Sullengers Cedar Lane from the county road list. The highway department also corrected Hudson Lane’s log mileage from 0.718 to 0.625 in county records and E‑911 mapping.
Residents petitioned for posted speed limits on Woods Lake Road and Fairview Road. The sheriff’s office recommended a 20 mph posting for Woods Lake Road (and 30 mph on associated access roads) after a safety assessment, and 30 mph for Fairview Road; the commission approved the postings and directed sign installation.
The commission also approved a resolution reducing commercial motor vehicle travel on several specified roads (including Greenhaw Road south of Tinsley Limestone, Old Alto Highway east of Greenhaw Road, Gum Creek Road, Knights Church Road and others). That restriction will be enforced under the applicable state statute and local ordinances. A petition and map excerpts were entered into the record for the Sullengers Cedar Lane removal.
The highway superintendent and road commission will update E‑911 records and coordinate sign installation and enforcement with the sheriff’s office following these actions.
