UNH Cooperative Extension tells Carroll County of 10% state cut and staffing plan

Karen Deighan, 4-H Educator and Administrator for Carroll County Extension, raised a state budget cut and staffing concern during public comment on June 15.
Deighan said the University of New Hampshire received a 10% reduction in its state funding that produced a $690,000 deficit. To avoid eliminating currently occupied positions, UNH proposes not filling the position formerly held by Ann Hamilton, which had been funded 25% by the county and 75% by the state. Deighan said the university is considering using the county’s 25% share to offset the salary of the county nutrition teacher.
She invited the board to attend an Extension meeting in Conway on June 16 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the impact and next steps.
