Board hears facilities inspections; boiler at Maryel found leaking and quotes sought

During the March 17 meeting, the building and grounds report said routine inspections revealed several aging fixtures in the fire sprinkler systems that were recommended for replacement and that fire-detection systems (panels, batteries, alarms, strobes, smoke detectors) are being tested across schools. Facilities staff said batteries typically last about 18 months and cost approximately $20 each when replaced.
Anthony Scarinzi, reporting for building and grounds, told the board a steam boiler at Maryel was found to be leaking during a biannual state inspection and needs replacement. "It was discovered the steam boiler at Maryel was leaking and as a result needs replacing," he said. The district is gathering cost estimates; building and grounds will review quotes, choose a vendor and bring a recommendation to the full board.
Board members also asked about the copier contract timeline and other routine maintenance issues. No procurement decisions were made at the meeting; the board will consider vendor recommendations after the committee review.
